Raytheon Global Network Operation Center

Raytheon desired to bring their NOC operations in-house vs their historical model of outsourcing to a 3rd party. To this end, it was necessary to build out an entire monitoring solution. The project encompassed all Raytheon network connected devices worldwide; totaling over 150,000 devices including Servers, VoIP, and Network Infrastructure devices.

Challenge

The complexity was relatively high due to the requirement that Raytheon poll all devices at a 5 minute interval, so a significant number of management servers (remote pollers, aggregators, etc..) were required in order to meet this requirement.

Solution

Acentle architected and implemented the Network Monitoring solution based on HP OpenView Performance Insight as well as served as OVPI, VMware ESX and RedHat subject matter experts. We assisted in the design of global OVPI implementation for 150,000+ devices worldwide and engineered a highly available and fault tolerant solution. Acentle architected multiple Satellite Servers for roll-up and aggregation. 10 Remote Pollers were deployed throughout the environment. We automated the collection and monitoring of metrics compared to a pre-defined threshold, if the threshold has been violated, an event is sent to Ionix via an external SNMP interface.
